Unique on of a kind sculpture. “It was my intention with this one-of-a-kind life size “The Call of the Canyon” sculpture to commemorate Zane Grey’s novel. It is my endeavor to have historically accurate details in my work. It speaks not only to the story of “The Call of the Canyon,” it also recognizes the historic and courageous pioneer spirit of the people of Sedona from a century ago. This spirit is still alive and well in our community today. The storied sculpture also brings to light Zane Grey’s famed Western Novel, written in 1921, leading to the first movie filmed in Sedona in 1923. Grey made a movie that was actually filmed on location and not on a studio lot - it was visionary. That silent Western film opened the door for a rich history of decades of filmmaking bringing famed actors and directors to Red Rock country” - James Muir The pioneer couple represents the spirit of Oak Creek Canyon’s earliest Anglo settlers. The broken wagon wheel symbolizes the completion of one era of human history and the way forward into a new era illuminated by the Lantern of Truth and Freedom. Both Figures are at the same level signifying equality. This piece is on exhibit at the Sedona Heritage Museum located at 735 Jourdan Rd.
